I never check a bag, at least not when I can help it. So the idea of having a capsule travel wardrobe is right up my alley. Not only does it allow for easy packing, but I can save that pesky $25 luggage fee and use it on something fun on my trip.
Recently, went to Los Angeles for 5 days and here are some of the things I took with me, and some tips I use when thinking of what to pack.
1. Pick a color palette– Start with neutrals- black, gray, white, tan- and then add in little bits of color here and there. I normally stick to blacks and grays with some navy or green mixed in.
2. Wear Layers– For this trip to LA the weather was all over the place. I brought my leather jacket and a pair of booties for the colder days and a button down to wear over the t-shirts. Each time I got too warm, I just shed a layer and still felt put together.
3. Wear what makes you feel good and comfortable– A trip isn’t the time to bust out a new pair of shoes or some daring outfit that you aren’t 100% sure of. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. Shoes that are comfortable and you know won’t give you blisters, outfits that make you feel happy and relaxed.
4. Plan ahead– Don’t leave packing for the last minute. I start a list the week of. This way I have an idea of what I need to pick up at the store and have plenty of time to test out some outfits to make sure I’m feeling my best.
If you take the time to think through what you really will wear, what works with the weather, and what makes you feel good you really can make your vacation packing go a lot smoother.
What about you? Do you have a capsule travel wardrobe? What works for you and what doesn’t? I’d love to hear your packing tips…or horror stories!
