Exploring the Upper West Side

Before you start reading this post, if you haven’t watched You’ve Got Mail, STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING RIGHT NOW!! Its one of my favorite movies to watch. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are at their best, and it gives me all of the fall in NYC feels. The movie locations are in the Upper West Side of New York and its one of my favorite parts of the city.

This past November, I spent a beautiful day exploring the Upper West Side so here’s a look at some of my favorite spots…

First Stop, Lincoln Center. Home of the New York Philharmonic, the New York Ballet, and the Juilliard school.  The first time I went here I was in college and got the chance to go hear the New York Philharmonic. It was an experience I will never forget.

If you ever want a really good NYC hot dog experience, there is only one place to go. Gray’s Papaya! I mean you can not go wrong with 2 hot dogs and a drink for under $5. There is limited space inside, so grab a hot dog and head over to Verdi Square to sit, eat and people watch.

Make sure you walk by the Ansonia building. What once was a hotel, is now been converted into a luxury apartment building (can you imagine having the money to leave here?). It has that beautiful Parisian architecture and is one of my favorite buildings in NYC.

Don’t forget to stop by Zabar’s for that classic NYC deli experience.

Walk along Riverside Drive and enjoy Riverside park, one of the most picturesque parks in Manhattan.

While you are walking along Riverside Dr., make a stop on 89th street and check out the brownstone that served as Kathleen Kelly’s house in You’ve Got Mail.

Located within Riverside Park also on 89th street is the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, built in 1902 to commemorate the Union soldiers who fought in the Civil War.

I hope you get the chance to spend time in the Upper West Side next time you get to go to New York. It really is a magical place to be especially on a weekend in the fall.
