We made it through 2020. Can you all believe it? After the craziest year, one in which so many travel dreams had to be postponed, its time to look into the crystal ball and foresee a new year in travel. With the vaccine news there has been some restored hope and a new outlook on what travel in 2021 may look like.

Where to travel in 2021

Here’s a look at my top destinations that are perfect for your next getaway whether you feel comfortable traveling now or post pandemic. All the destinations listed below are currently open to travelers with exception of a few. As with most things pertaining to travel during Covid 19, restrictions can change at a moments notice. Just another reason why working with a travel advisor is so important.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica Arenal Volcano - Where to travel in 2021

Nestled between the Pacific ocean and the Caribbean, Costa Rica boasts impressive rainforests, beautiful beaches, relaxing hot springs and majestic volcanos. There is a little something for everyone. For those looking for culture, restaurants and the hustle and bustle of a city, San Jose is the perfect start to your trip. From there spend some time in the famous Arenal region, where travelers can soak in hot springs and visit the volcano. End your trip at the beach for some rest and relaxation.

How to get there:

Travelers need to complete an online health care form 48 hours before boarding their flight. Also, travelers must show proof of travel insurance that will cover medical and accommodation expenses in the event they need to quarantine.

Cape Town, South Africa - Where to travel in 2021

From the cultural cities of Cape Town and Johannesburg to South African wine country and safaris, South Africa makes for a perfect destination for travelers wanting to discover Africa for the first time.

How to get there:

Travelers need to show a negative COVID-19 no older than 72 hours from the time of their departure, as well as install the COVID Alert South Africa mobile app on their phones.

Palm Springs

When I think of Palm Springs, I think of mid century architecture and famous actors and actresses. Typically a weekend getaway for the Hollywood elite, Palm Springs and the surrounding area boasts great shops, restaurants and night life along with stunning natural landscapes like Indian Canyon and Joshua Tree.

How to get there:

Currently, travelers coming into California from out of state are being asked to quarantine for 14 days. Further, hotels and other lodging are not taking out of state guests unless they are considered essential workers, or planning to stay for 14 days and quarantine at the property. As with all travel restrictions during Covid these can change at any point.

How to get there:

Travel Restrictions for each National park vary based on the states they are in. Check the national parks service regularly for updates as closures and openings change often.

Families and couples looking for a tropical local with character, can’t go wrong with Bermuda. The 180 islands that make up Bermuda host pink sand, beautiful water and a little British flair make this island destination perfect for those looking to rest and relax with an ocean breeze and a cocktail in hand.

How to get there:

Travelers wishing to visit Bermuda must show a negative COVID-19 test from no more than five days before departure, fill out a travel authorization process online and pay a $75 fee, additionally they will be tested at the airport and will need to quarantine at their accommodation until the results are ready (turn around time is typically 24 hours). Travelers will then be tested every few days while on the island and be required to take their temperature twice each day and report it online.

Riviera Nayarit - Where to travel in 2021

Most think of the popular Cancun or Cabo areas of Mexico, when they think Mexico coastal vacation, but Riviera Nayarit is having a huge moment right now. The area just south of Puerta Vallarta is the new hot spot to be and with hotel openings like the recent One and Only Mandarina look for it to be on many 2021 travel top destination lists.

How to get there:

Currently there are no travel restrictions to this area of Mexico for air passengers. On arrival temperatures will be taken and you will be asked to fill out a form at customs. Hotels are open at 50% capacity to insure social distancing measures are in place.

How to get there:

Americans traveling to Egypt must secure a visa, show proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 96 hours prior to departure (a digital copy will not be accepted, only in paper form), and also show proof of health insurance upon arrival.

Maine

Maine - Where to travel in 2021

How to get there:

All out of state travelers coming to Maine must receive a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to arrival or complete a 10-day quarantine.

Maldives

How to get there:

Travelers wishing to visit the Maldives must have a confirmed booking in a tourist establishment registered with the Ministry of Tourism, must submit an online Health form within 24 hours prior to departure, and a negative PCR test given 96 hours prior to time of departure.
